GAHANNA TAKES REYNOLDSBURG IN THE CARDINAL ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE'S SECOND ANNUAL SPIRIT SPRINT 5K RUN/WALK ON APRIL 17
But event is a win-win, raising more than $6200 in support of
Gahanna and Reynoldsburg athletics
COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 20, 2011) - On Sunday, April 17, The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute partnered with the Gahanna and Reynoldsburg school districts to host the second annual Spirit Sprint 5k Run/Walk event to benefit each districts' athletic programs. In its second year, the Sprint more than doubled in number of participants and introduced a new "Under 18" award category.
Like last year, each school was charged with registering as many walkers and runners as possible. This year, the Gahanna Lincoln Lions took the prize with 164 registrants. As a result, they earned 75 percent of the registration proceeds (and all the bragging rights!), and Reynoldsburg walked away with the remaining 25 percent.
In total, the event raised more than $6200 for both schools. The physicians at The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute presented the Gahanna Lions with the Spirit Sprint trophy and $4,686.75 to benefit the districts' athletic programs. Last year's Spirit Sprint winners, the Reynoldsburg Raiders earned $1562.25 this year.
"Gahanna Schools is thankful to Cardinal Orthopaedics for their commitment to our schools," said Rochelle Dunn, safe & drug free schools/mental health coordinator & Gahanna-Jefferson organizer, "and also for the opportunity to raise money for our athletes."
"This is such a fun event for us here at the practice," said Dr. Joel Politi, president, The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute. "It gives us an opportunity to set aside the scrubs for a day and lace up our sneakers in support of a great cause - our local athletic programs."
"As physicians, we know regular aerobic activity can help to postpone and prevent many common orthopaedic conditions. We want to do all we can to encourage kids to get active and stay active into adulthood."
The day also featured a performance by the Gahanna STOMP team; appearances by both school mascots: the Gahanna Lion and Rocky the Raider; music; free refreshments; and bounce houses.
Sponsors included: UBS Financial Services (Victoria Hayward); Consultant Anesthesiologists, Inc.; East Broad Adult Urgent Care; DePuy; Breg; Ossur; Family Pharmacy; Mount Carmel; Synthes (Matt Spitler); Chik-fil-a; Donato's; Jimmy John's; Yorkland Park Care Center; Young Chef's Academy; and Bizzie Bounce and More, LLC.
