Practice merges two offices into one, comprehensive center with the patient in mind
THE CARDINAL ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE WILL OPEN ITS LARGEST FACILITY WITH PATIENT IN MIND - NOVEMBER 2009
Vision comes to life as "musculoskeletal institute" featuring new Physical Therapy & Performance Center
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Oct. 26, 2009) - The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute will begin seeing patients at its newest location in the Mount Carmel Medical Park, 170 Taylor Station Road, early November 2009. This new 86,000 square-foot facility will merge two existing offices, at 259 Taylor Station Road and 85 McNaughten Road, into one comprehensive orthopedic care center, featuring the new Physical Therapy & Performance Center, occupational therapy and MRI.
With both east-side offices at maximum capacity, the practice broke ground in October 2008 with its sights on a facility that would allow for growth and the addition of ancillary service lines, like MRI and physical therapy, and complementary tenants in areas such as physical medicine and rehabilitation.
In addition to this new office, the practice will continue seeing patients at its four other central Ohio locations in Hilliard, Westerville, Powell and Grove City. Of the total 22 physicians, 18 will hold regular office hours at the new facility, working alongside a staff of roughly 100 physicians" assistants, nurses, medical staff and corporate employees. Patient Financial Services, established in March 2009, will also move to the new building.
At the ground-breaking, the group anticipated the creation of 20-25 jobs as a result of the new facility. Now only months away from the move, the practice has already welcomed 11 new staff members, with plans to hire more within the year. (Details and bios attached.)
Benefit to Patient
This move comes at a time when many organizations, such as the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, are citing an anticipated demand for joint replacement and other orthopaedic procedures spurred by an aging population. Projections from leading research firms state that the over-65 demographic will nearly triple by 2030, with the first Baby Boomer turning 65 in 2011. This translates to a rise in the number of people living with chronic conditions, such as arthritis.
"This new facility will position us to meet these anticipated demands, but it will do more than that. It will have an immediate impact on the patient experience and continuum of care," according to practice president, Dr. Joel R. Politi.
"We can now offer physical and occupational therapy, MRI and expert orthopaedic care under one roof. This will not only raise the convenience factor for our patients, but will enhance cooperation between imaging, therapists and physicians, which means a better result and experience for the patient. They will benefit from our synergies."
The Physical Therapy & Performance Center
In conjunction with the opening, The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute will also introduce The Physical Therapy & Performance Center, which will be located on the main level of the new facility.
This 12,000 square-foot therapy center will include a therapy pool; functional, cardio and strength-training areas; private treatment rooms for therapy and massage; and locker rooms with shower facilities.
Steve Mendicino will serve as director, overseeing a staff of approximately 14 full-time therapists and trainers, each with specialized training to meet a range of needs from total joint replacement to back care.
"Patients can be assured this care is part of their overall treatment plan, and was designed with input from the entire physician team," says Mendicino. "We are building a truly integrated approach and facility, where patients can move from MRI to physician to therapist with ease."
In addition to individual physical therapy sessions, the Center will offer regular Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program classes; massage therapy; fall prevention courses; weight-loss management; plus sports-specific and community education programs.
"With the opening of this new facility, we look forward to deepening our relationship with organizations like the Arthritis Foundation to provide community programming and education," says Dale Ingram, CEO of The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute. "It is our mission to become a resource to both the general and medical communities as it relates to all musculoskeletal needs."
Complementary Tenants
Roughly 10,000 square feet will be leased to specialists that complement Cardinal Orthopaedic"s offerings. Physical Medicine Associates, Inc., a physical medicine and rehabilitation group based in Columbus, has signed a lease agreement and will occupy just over 2,000 square feet.
"Only one year after breaking ground, we are preparing to realize our vision of a true musculoskeletal institute," says Ingram. "And this is only the beginning; the practice is continually exploring complementary specializations and service lines."
