Patient Honors Dr. Joel Politi with Guardian Angel Award
In January 2010, on the outstanding recommendation of a long-time patient, the Mount Carmel Foundation honored Dr. Joel R. Politi as a "Guardian Angel."
Patient's Entry on behalf of Dr. Politi
I am recovering from my 7th Hip Revision on my left hip.....having the last 5 surgeries done by Dr. Politi in 2005,06,07,08,09. My first 2 were done in 1987 and 1995. I am a patient who has suffered with severe Rheumatoid arthritis since I was 25 and the worst damage was in my left hip joint. Due to complications from an allergic reaction to the plastic liner of my first hip my surgeon in 1995 had to use bone grafts to rebuild my hip. Then in 2005 when I first met Dr. Politi, he discovered my pelvis was cracked and he built a cage around my hip to hold the 3rd replacement. Each year after that there were different complications and finally in April of 2009 he told me the screws were not going to hold on my 6th revision.
Instead of giving up on me, Dr. Politi found a new way to put in a replacement that would allow the screws to be placed in a healthier part of my hip by consulting with other surgeons and devising a new replacement part for the cup. I feel very blessed that all of my last 5 surgeries were in his hands.
Besides the amazing skill and dedication that Dr. Politi clearly possesses, he is always so caring and accessible, willing to discuss, explain, and help me in all the phases of my recovery, not just the surgery. I knew he really cared about my total well being and he and all of his staff have done everything possible to help me get back to a normal active lifestyle. I have recently retired from over 36 years of teaching and am looking forward to a busy retirement and spending quality time with my 4 grandchildren. Dr. Politi has been a Guardian Angel to me.
