The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute

History

Although The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute may be a new name to the field of orthopaedics, our physicians are not. With nearly 40 years of experience, our physicians are highly respected throughout Central Ohio.

In addition to our experience, we have a rich history of collaboration and integration. This is a result of several mergers that have served to unify care in our communities making us the most comprehensive orthopaedic practice in Central Ohio.

In 1999, Columbus Orthopaedic Surgeons merged with Ohio Orthopedic Surgeons and Sports Medicine to form Greater Ohio Orthopedic Surgeons. As the practice grew it was again time for change. In 2004, Greater Ohio Orthopedic Surgeons merged with Dr. Michael Willard and Dr. Robert Turner of Central Ohio Orthopaedic Group to form the Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute. Today, the Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute is the largest, most comprehensive orthopaedic practice in Central Ohio.

The work of the original practice's founding physicians - Dr. Martin Torch, Dr. J. Richard Briggs, Dr. Walter H. Hauser, Dr. David Marsalka, Dr. Paul Miller and Dr. Richard Slager - laid the groundwork for the collaboration that has made the Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute a leader in the medical field.

Our physicians continue to play an integral role in the growth and development of the institute. They also advance the development of the surrounding health care facilities including Columbus Children's Hospital and Mount Carmel Health Systems by supporting the development of programs, helping finance new facilities and providing leadership through involvement as department chairmen and medical staff presidents.
